Proposed, not adopted. Any Louisiana page or specification that refers to “the Louisiana building code” without naming an edition is stale on its face. Here is what the edition actually is, and what is proposed to replace it.
What is in force today
From the current Louisiana Administrative Code Title 17, last amended May 2026: LAC 17:I.103 adopts the International Building Code 2021 Edition; §105 the International Existing Building Code 2021; §107 the International Residential Code 2021; §109 the International Mechanical Code 2021; §111 the International Plumbing Code 2021; §113 the International Fuel Gas Code 2021; and §115 the National Electrical Code 2020 Edition.
What is proposed
The Notice of Intent appears in the Louisiana Register of August 20, 2026 at page 1403:
“Notice is hereby given that in accordance with the Louisiana Administrative Procedure Act, R.S. 49:950 et seq., and pursuant to the authority of R.S. 37:3727-3750, the Louisiana Uniform Construction Code Commission (LUCCC) is proposing to repeal the current language under LAC 17:I.101 - 117, Uniform Construction Code, and to adopt new language under Sections 101 – 117 for the purpose of amending and adopting the 2023 edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the 2024 editions of the I-codes in the state of Louisiana with an effective date of January 1, 2027.”
The first proposed section reads: “§103. International Building Code A. International Building Code (IBC), 2024 Edition, not including Chapter 1, Administration, and Chapter 27, Electrical.”
The comment period closed at end of business, Central time, on September 10, 2026 — today.1
