Privacy policy
This policy describes the information HOA Weekly collects, how it is used, and the choices subscribers and visitors have. HOA Weekly is published by Thastel Group LLC, a Wisconsin limited liability company.

Information collected
Account information. When a reader subscribes, free or paid, the publication collects an email address. Subscribers may optionally provide a name. Free-newsletter account information is stored with Buttondown, the publication's email service provider. Paid State Pass account information (email address and subscription status) is stored in Cloudflare's infrastructure, tied to the subscriber's Stripe customer record.
Payment information. Paid subscribers provide payment details to Stripe, HOA Weekly's payment processor. Stripe handles all payment information directly. HOA Weekly does not receive, store, or process credit card numbers, bank account details, or other payment credentials.
Usage data. HOA Weekly receives aggregate analytics about visits to hoaweekly.com, including page views, referring sites, and broad geographic location (city or region). Email newsletters report delivery, open, and click events at the individual subscriber level. Subscribers may opt out of open and click tracking by emailing [email protected].
Correspondence. Email sent to [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected] is retained for the purpose of responding to the inquiry and maintaining records of corrections, tips, and legal notices.
How information is used
Collected information is used for these purposes:
- Delivering newsletters, account access, and subscription benefits to subscribers
- Processing subscription payments and managing renewals
- Responding to editorial, billing, and legal inquiries
- Understanding which articles are useful to readers and improving coverage
- Investigating fraudulent or abusive use of the site
- Complying with legal obligations
HOA Weekly does not sell subscriber information. HOA Weekly does not share subscriber lists with advertisers, sponsors, or third parties for marketing purposes.
Service providers
HOA Weekly uses the following third-party services to operate the publication:
- Cloudflare hosts hoaweekly.com, delivers web traffic, provides security services, and stores State Pass subscription and access records.
- Buttondown sends the free newsletter and stores free-subscriber email addresses.
- Stripe processes State Pass subscription payments.
- Resend sends State Pass account email, including sign-in links and purchase receipts.
Each service has its own privacy policy governing the data it processes on HOA Weekly's behalf.
Cookies and tracking
HOA Weekly uses cookies for the following purposes:
- Authenticating logged-in subscribers
- Remembering subscription tier and access permissions
- Aggregate site analytics
- Measuring how visitors move through the site, using a randomly generated identifier kept for 180 days. This identifier is not derived from an IP address or device fingerprint, is never linked to a name, email address, or account, and cannot be read by any script running on the page. Search-engine and AI crawlers are not given one.
The publication does not use third-party advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or social-media tracking.
Subscriber rights
Subscribers may:
- Request a copy of personal information held by HOA Weekly
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Cancel a subscription at any time through the account portal or by emailing [email protected]
- Request deletion of an account and associated personal information, subject to legal record-keeping obligations
Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and other states with general privacy statutes have additional rights under those laws. Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have rights under GDPR and UK GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Data retention
Account information is retained for as long as a subscription is active and for a reasonable period after cancellation for record-keeping and legal compliance purposes. Email correspondence is retained for two years from the date of last contact unless retention for a longer period is required by law. Aggregate analytics data is retained indefinitely in non-identifiable form.
Children
HOA Weekly is a publication intended for property management professionals, association board members, and attorneys. It is not directed at children under 16. The publication does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email to active subscribers. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
